چکیده

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the performance GeneXpert® group B streptococcus (GBS) PCR assays in a Danish setting, using rectovaginal GBS culture at labor as gold standard. Methods: Three hundred and sixty-six (366) women with one or more following risk factors for carriage—GBS during current pregnancy, prior infant EOGBS, temperature >38.0 ∘C labor, preterm <37 weeks gestation, rupture membranes ≥18 hours—were included study. Intrapartum swab samples were tested bedside by assay, cultured on agar plates (Granada) without use growth-selective enrichment broth. Results: assay showed sensitivity 91.7%, specificity 97.2%, PPV 92.6 %, NPV 96.8%. turnaround time 50 minutes. Conclusions: has high performance, indicating that can be used clinical setting.

Usefulness of a Rapid Real-time PCR Assay in Prenatal Screening for Group B Streptococcus Colonization

BACKGROUND Group B streptococcus (GBS) infection is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Here, we present the analytical and diagnostic usefulness of a new real-time PCR-based assay (Xpert GBS; Cepheid, USA) for rapid and accurate prenatal GBS screening. METHODS We enrolled 175 pregnant women who were between 35 and 39 weeks of gestation. The analytical performance o...

Comparative Molecular and Microbiologic Diagnosis of Vaginal Colonization by Group B Streptococcus in Pregnant Women during Labor

Objective(s) Rapid tests for detection of Streptococcus agalactiae or Group B Streptococci (GBS) at the onset of labor are needed to permit early intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. This study aimed to evaluate the PCR assays targeting the 16S ribosomal RNA gene (16S rDNA) for detection of the GBS in comparison with a specific culture method. Materials and Methods Two swabs were used to obta...

Maternal Obesity and Rectovaginal Group B Streptococcus Colonization at Term

OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that maternal obesity is an independent risk factor for rectovaginal group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization at term. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study of consecutive women with singleton term pregnancies admitted in labor at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (2004-2008). Maternal BMI≥30 Kg/m2 (obese) or <30 Kg/m2 (nonobese) defined the two comparison groups. The ...

Multicenter study evaluating performance of the Smart Group B Streptococcus (GBS) assay using an enrichment protocol for detecting GBS colonization in patients in the antepartum period.

Group B streptococcus (GBS) remains the leading cause of infectious morbidity and mortality in infants born in the United States, especially among black infants. Because a newborn can acquire GBS during and after delivery, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that pregnant women be screened for rectovaginal GBS colonization during the antepartum period between weeks 3...
